The traditional XDs also have an ambi mag release. Atleast the Service Pistols and Compacts do. I don't know for sure about the SCs.

You're not gonna like my answer...Talon Arms.

The HK Mags I just bought cost me $59 a piece (on sale from $66.50). At least the P99's mags can be had for under $40.

it was a design issue. look at them side by side and you will see.

the XD m seems to be of thinner metal, but is SLIGHTLY thicker side to side and the same front to back (obvious here as the rounds are still the same size...) the height is also different. by almost half an inch.

my guess is they wanted to be able to keep them the same, but i imagine it wasnt possible...

I kinda welcomed the new XDm's because all the 'new and improved, gotta buy the latest model guys' went out and bought them and traded their old XD's for them and made the 'old' XD's in 9mm worth less on the trade market. Those guys usually don't shoot a lot either, which is a nice thing for me.

Yeah, I bought a 'used' old model, I'm sad, no not really.

But yeah, I hear ya on the different magazines, that would suck

I'm actually thinking of sending my 9mm service out to get the grips chopped to allow the subcompact magazines to work with it, figure it might make a nice carry gun, kinda like the XD45 compact.

The new XDM didn't take the old XD magazines. They had changed them slightly so that they wouldn't work. YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!!!

The more I thought about this the more it p*ssed me off. I have spent a lot of money on my current selection of XD's. Magazines aren't cheap, and I have built a small collection of them. I have two full size XD's and a subcompact. I can use all my full size mags in all the XD's I have. Even the full size ones will fit in the subcompact allowing me to use them in both pistols.

Why would you bring out another XD and not let the magazines interchange. Heck, even Glocks do this. And I'm not a Glock fan, but they are smart enough to keep the mags the same for convenience and customer benefits. If it is an XD, the mags should work in all XD's.

If you can't use the mags from the XD's in the XDM. It shouldn't be called an XD. It should have been called something different. I wrote and let Springfield know it too. They sent me a reply that just said that the XDM is a different' pistol. Well, Duhhhhhhh. Then don't call it an XD.

Please feel free to write Springfield and express you displeasure. I know I have talked to many that aren't happy about this. And we need to let Springfield know it. It really p*sses me off, cause I know the main reason reason they did it, was to 1) ride off the reputation of the XD. 2)Make us buy new "EVERYTHING" if you wanted this pistol.

    I'm not happy.

    Rant over.
It's just a ploy to make more money ! They figure all the folks that want extra mags will have to buy them now, no more freebies.
I think XDM stands for Xtra for Different Magazines !
Just like the cable TV company AMC stands for Alot More Commercials !
Sorry to hear about what happened. I too hate when companies do dumb shit like that !
Bersa for instance sells aftermarket wood grips in laminated wood colors for their Thunder 380/32, and Thunder Deluxe pistols with the single stack mags.
They don't have them available for the Thunder Plus however with the Hi-Cap magazine. They put the screws on different places on the grip for no reason
when it would be so simple to make both grips have the same holes ! Stupid !
