    Default decent makarov

A friend of mine who is a Russian immigrant (US citizen) would like to buy a Makarov like he used in the Russian millitary.

I know there are many makers and such with these guns.

Where can I find him a good price on a decent model?

Are there original Russian models available and are they of good quality?

i have a NIB russian makarov in 380 i'm selling for 300 bucks, it has target sites and comes with 2 mags, holster, box and manual. PM me your email address if interested and i can send pics.

with that said i think the bulgarian makarovs are still available and can be had for around 250 bucks. checkout www.gunsamerica.com, auctionarms or gunbroker to see what's out there.

I expect he would want a Russian military model rather than the civilian Baikal. Russian and East German are tops in this field and you can expect to pay for that alone.

Russkys are hard to find. Anyone that has then are sitting on them. Actually, I'm looking myself.

They just got in Bulgarian Makarovs. I have one and it is awesome. Not sure on the price though, you have to be a dealer to see.

CDNN has used KBIs in Walther style and a bunch of used CZ-82s as well. You can find them on page thirteen of their downloadable catalog.

If he wants a "true" Makarov, look for a Russian (Izhevsk or Baikal), Bulgarian (Arsenal/Miltex), East German (Simpson Suhl/Ernst Thaelmann), or Chinese (Norinco) Makarov. The Norinco model was called a "type 59". The German maks tend to fetch the highest premiums. To be completely official, look for an Izhevsk.

As previously mentioned, Baikal Makarov pistols were made for civilian / export use whereas the Izhevsk were the Russian military issue.

Baikal-made are very similar to the Izhevsk-made, although most/all Baikal pistols have adjustable rear sights instead of the smaller fixed sight and some are chambered in .380 or are a goofy looking double stack variant.

A few gun shows ago in Greensburg, a guy had 2 crates full of Mak's. IIRC the one crate was your choice for $80 (they were pretty beat up) the other crate was pretty decent condition pistols selling for $125.

Those were probably Hungarian FEG PA-63 pistols, chambered in 9mm Makarov.

Pretty good price for PA-63s nonetheless.
