Default what are the specs on a gong?

I have read about guys shooting at a "100 yard gong" and such. I would like to recommend getting one at my local range. I want to bring it up at the meeting. One of our range officers is a machinist and has build a bunch of pepper poppers, steel plate racks, and stuff.

What steel thicknes would be necessary for common rifles rounds at 100 yards? What other perameters?

.223, 7.62x39, 30.06. I imagine would be the common ones.

The search option is your friend...learn how to use it.
