Re: cutting down shotgun barrels
First.... No yelling about bringing back an old thread. I'm using the search to do some reserach and have a question.
When I cut the barrel down on my shotgun. Is the measurement taken from the reciever up the barrel with the barrrel attached to the reciever? Or, is this measurement taken with the barrel removed and then the entire length measured.
What is the best way to cut the barrel. It has a ventilated rib on it. Should I just use a hacksaw, or, is there a better way.
I'm never going to use the longer barrel, so I might as well save me some bucks and just cut the one I have. The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control....

With the barrel attached, from the closed bolt face to the end of the barrel.

Re: cutting down shotgun barrels
First make sure your gun is empty.. then have the fore end (pump) forward as if you just chambered a shell.....stick a wooden dowel in there (down the barrel) until it hits the boltface and stops, then mark it, now take it out and measure 18" up from the bottom (most do 18.5" to be safe). mark it at your measurement and thats how short it can be. measure from line 1 to line 2 and thats how much you can take off.

Re: cutting down shotgun barrels
If you have those secret BATFE issued glasses, the barrel length is marked on the barrel, then math is required....
