Red face Was accpeted to school outside of Philly, family is totally against carrying.

I recently was accepted to a Masters program right outside of Philly and thought it a wise decision to look into some sort of personal protection. So I stopped into Eagle Arms the other day and ended up walking out with a Czech police issue .32 CZ-70 for $200 (PPK clone). I brought it home and showed the family, they were less than thrilled. Dad is a Brooklyn born Jew and mom is a hippie. No one in the family is really into guns and they were trying to tell me there really is no need to conceal a weapon these days.

I was wondering how many members have actually had to draw their weapon or were thankful to have one on them in teh past.

Needless to say I went to the Lehigh county court house today and put in my LTCF. I leave for a month long medical missions trip at 2am tomorrow morning and hope it will be waiting for me when I return.

    Thanks Guys!

Close, Eastern. And no, I am not a bible thumper lol.

They think I should know better than to carry a gun since I work in a local hospitals trauma center and see what they can do all day long. But thats the point, I dont want to be one of those patients.

Can I hear some examples of when carrying has actually resolved a situation or saved a life? Im not being sarcastic, I just want to be reassured that catching their shit is worth the hassle. lol

You cant carry at a school... At least thats what I though... If for some reason a professor noticed it or something you could get expelled. If you want to have one lock it up in the car while your in class.

If Dad likes or is good with a PC , send him to the website for Jews For the Preservation of Firearms Ownership , they are a VERY vocal , no compromises issue group . If he's not interested in using a PC , you can go to the site your self and print out pages and pages of information . The Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto managed to holdoff a company or greater strength of The Gestapo and Wermacht for more then a month with very few firearms and little ammo .

Israel now has some of the most liberal carry laws because armed citizens successfully stopped suicide attackers with private weapons .

Show Mom and Dad the FBI Uniform Crime Report Stats on violent crime .

Show them there is roughly ONE Law Officer for every 1700 Citizens

Show them The American Academy Of Sciences report that found conclusively that lawfully armed civilians stop more then 750,000 crimes EACH YEAR , often without firing a shot

Explain to Mom and Dad that the average response time to a 911 call is 4 minutes , while the average interaction time between a criminal and his victim is 90 seconds.

Look up Warren v DC , one of several cases over the years in which Courts have ruled Police have NO legal obligation to provide protective services to individual citizens and the Police Dept and or Govt CANNOT be sued or otherwise held responsible of they fail to show up in time to save you

Ask Mom and Dad how'd they feel if you became a statistic ?

In the end though , if their really set in their ways , you have alot of work to do . Not knowing them , I could only speculate if their open minded enough to reconsider their beliefs .

Heres a blog updated daily , from news reports around the Country and reported in the local media about everyday people saving themselves or others from being attacked or killed because they were armed . Give Mom and Dad the site , or print out copies of the various stories . And dont fall for " anyone can say anything on the internet crap " ALL of the stories have the local news organization or affiliate attributed in the report for easy validation

Grab some back issues of "American Rifleman" and have them read the Armed Citizen column. Beyond that, do what you have to do, your an adult and its your safety your looking out for!!

On a seperate note, I live all of 3 blocks from Eastern, nice place. PM me when you get down here we'll hit the range!
