FIL wants a new 16ga, where to start?
I had the pleasure of taking my father in law out shooting over the weekend and he was using his winchester model 37 and did well busting clay. We had a little issue with teh new ammo we picked up on the way. The primer was struck, but not deep and none of the new ammo would fire. All of his older (20 years or so) shells worked just fine.
I don't know if it's an easy fix, or a bad batch of shells but he was thinking of getting a new shotgun. I have tried a few websites so far, and the 16ga society but can't really find what I am looking for.
He wants either a single or over/under.
Under 500, but much closer to the $250 range
it can be plain, he doesn't want or need engraving or chrome.
Functional for a left-hander.
In reality it will not get shot much, but I would still rather have a decent quality gun if posible.
And, he really, really likes the 16ga but will consider a 12 if we can't find anything else.
Thanks,
Brian

Have you checked the "Sale" board below? Go back a few screens and see what may be available in your corner of the state.

The only thing I can think of that fills the 16ga, lefty friendly and under $500 would be the Stoeger Condor O/U, 16ga, MSRP $350

How about the Remington "Spartan"? I have a SxS in 20 ga and it is a pleasure to carry and to shoot.

Thanks for the tips, I passed all the info on to him.
We were actually looking at two different 20's at a local shop too. One was single break open, the other single bolt action (mossberg). We will have to see what he wants to do because 20ga ammo is much easier to find.

I have a Spartan SxS in 20 ga and it shoots well. Stay away from any single shot arms as they are of little practical use except when "set up" for trap.

I have a Baikal SxS in 16 gauge from when EAA imported them . This is the same gun that is a Remington Spartan, It was pretty stiff new but it's starting to loosen up as it gets used more. Comes with interchangable choke tubes which is pretty handy.
