Man charged with stealing seven guns from neighbor
The Intelligencer
A Horsham man stole guns from his neighbor and sold them for cash that he spent on gambling and drugs, police said Wednesday.
Officers arrested Ryan Miller, 23, Tuesday at the home he shares with his parents on Buckman Drive. Miller was released on $50,000 unsecured bail following an arraignment in Horsham district court.
Under questioning, Miller admitted stealing seven firearms from his neighbor's home over a two-month period, records said.
He sold the weapons at a gun shop in Horsham and another business in Upper Moreland, receiving about $900 cash. Miller told police he put the cash toward drugs and gambling, said records.
Early Tuesday morning, Miller's neighbor reported seven firearms were stolen from a gun cabinet at his home, police said. The alleged victim told police he did not trust Miller and suspected him of stealing the weapons.
The owner gave police a list of the rifles and their serial numbers. Armed with that information, police stopped at Clayton's Hunting and Fishing on Route 611 in Horsham to see if anyone had sold the missing weapons there, records said.
Police found three of the alleged victim's missing firearms at the gun shop. Clayton kept records of the sale that identified Miller as the seller. The information even had Miller's driver license number on it, records said.
Police also learned that Richard Martin, who was identified by records as an Upper Moreland business owner, had also sold to Clayton's one of the stolen guns. Martin told police he initially bought the weapons - and costume jewelry - from Miller, records said.
When police searched Miller's home, they found no additional weapons, but he told authorities he sold all the weapons to Clayton's or to Martin. Police have recovered at least five of the stolen firearms.
Miller is charged with theft, criminal trespass and receiving stolen property.

If you ain't using it, then, keep it in the safe right next to where your Pit Bulldog sleeps! You don't want to, ever, come home late at night and have to face one of your own guns!

Wonder where the other two guns are.
I guess Clayton's is out the cash he gave for the guns. Too bad the gun owner won't get his guns back for a while. I suppose they'll be held as evidence until the trial is over.
This is a good lesson on why you should keep them locked up when you aren't home. It's too bad that it has to be that way.

If you own guns they should be locked in a safe, except for the ones you strategically place throughout the house in case some idiot dirtbag decides to break in while you're home.

Re: Man charged with stealing seven guns from neighbor
I'm a little torn over some of the responses. I know that a gun can be deadly but shouldn't it be like anything else in your house?
Would you lock up all of you electronic equipment in a safe when not in use? They can easily be sold to unsuspecting people or pawn shops.
Would having your car in your driveway (also can be used as a deadly weapon) be deemed as irresponsible if you have a garage it can be safely locked in?
This man's home was violated, should he seen any less a victim because the items stolen were guns?Last edited by Kimba; July 2nd, 2009 at 09:54 AM.

Nobody did, thus it is "unsecured". You are thinking of Secured Bail, then someone would either put up property, cash or use a Bail Bondsman. If he does not meet the conditions of his Bail they would have to go after him for the money, they took nothing off him "upfront". If the Court required it to be Secured Bail and he were to come to me, I would collateralize the risk with the Parents house. If they do not have the equity in it, he sits.
But you are correct, the Bail Business is a form of gambling and I love it! Recession proof too
Be safe (and good, you can avoid the dummy tax).
