    Question CCW in Centre County

Hey guys, I turn 21 on Wednesday (the 30th)! WooHoo!

Anyways, I was just wondering if any of you had any tips or beneficial knowledge about carrying in Centre County? I plan on getting my permit a.s.a.p. after Wednesday, and will be looking to get my first pistol (M&P9, which will be my carry gun) in the first couple weeks of June.

Some questions about getting my permit: From things that I've been reading on here, the process to get a LTCF is pretty quick in this county, especially if you go in and see Mr. Nau in person. Is this true? I'm currently working full-time and taking an evening class here at the university. Is the courthouse/sheriff's office open on the weekends? If not I'll probably have to mail it. Is this (http://www.co.centre.pa.us/sheriff/l...pplication.asp) the correct instructions for the LTCF application? I'm kind of confused because those instructions seem to be geared for only out-of-state people.

Thank you in advance for all of your answers/advice!

Fill out the paperwork and mail it in. My gf got hers in less than a week so its not much of a wait. At least in centre county.

Just head down to to the old prision (new sheriff dept office) over your lunch break (if you get one) it will take you longer to make the drive than to get the permit.

LOL no, he meant the OLD Centre Co. Prison. Which is the building directly behind the Courthouse and up the hill. You'll know it when you see all the Sheriff vehicles parked there.

In fact you probably won't even see Sheriff Nau unless he is passing through the office. The folks at the desk will hand you the form to fill out, they'll call the PICS hotline and if all ok will ask you for the money. Pay and walk out with the LCTF.

    Yeah, haha... I was wondering.

I do know what you're talking about now... the little building at the top of the hill right behind the courthouse.

I'm going to try to make it there over my lunch break...

Sooo any things I should know about carrying around here? Any places known to be not gun-friendly (besides the courthouse)?

yeah. dont be a moron about it! Seriously though, the cops are pretty cool about it just don't be an ass and dont drink and carry. I can't think of anywhere that is "off limits" but be warned about PSU campus. They have a no guy policy, off duty officers that work for them are not even allowed to CCW while off duty on campus. All they can do is ask you to leave campus though but if you are a student or worker they may take diciplinary action against you throught he university.

    be safe
