Default Opinions wanted on next purchase

Ok so I opened my big mouth a few months ago and told my brother I would sell him my SW99 if he got his NJ permit. Well he did and now he wants it.
Just when the gun was just starting to break in and I was really growing fond of it.

So heres the deal. I'm only looking to spend $500 to replace it.
    I have a Sig 239 and a Hi point, both 9mm.
I'd like to stay with the .40 cal or maybe even go .45.

I would like some of you to bounce some ideas off me, maybe bring up some choices I may not have thought of.

Here what I don't want. A Taurus, or an XD. I'd rather not get a Glock though I do like shooting them.
I'm open to new & used pistols
I'm thinking about getting another 99 two tone $475 NIB on gunbroker.
I also like the Ruger P345, $430 NIB.
I'm also open to a wheel as well. Maybe a Redhawk.
And of course another Sig, especially a 229.

    Thanks.

I'm more interested in hearing how the heck he got his NJ permit....

But to answer your question (I'm biased towards carry guns):

Nothing wrong with another SW99, if that's what you like. Ditto for the XD.

    How about a new XD(M) in .40?

In terms of wheelguns, how about a lightly used K frame snubbie? Those are always fun, and are a nice change from the J frames that everyone focuses on for carry revolvers...

Or, if you want to bump up $100 or so over your ceiling...how about an H&K PSP trade in?

I really didn't look at the K or J frame, Thanks.

I have to be honest. I shot a few XD's and really didn't care for them. I know alot of people love them but not me. Though it is hard to beat 19+1.

There is 2 H&K's availible now that I have my eye on.
I haven't fired one yet, but everyone raves about them like they're almost orgasmic, lol.

I'd spend anoth $100 if it was for the right piece.

    I'd dig a .44 magnum 4" Redhawk. I like the P345, too, but i've never shot either. Got 1911?

i think all of your choices are good ones but semiauto taurus would be at the bottom of the list. the sig229 is a great gun but you won't get a new one for less than 500 but you can find them used and in excellent condition for around 500. HK makes really nice pistols also and while they cost upwards of 800 bucks new you can get used ones in your price range. the ruger p345 is a nice gun but ruger still makes the p90 which in my opinion is one of the best 45's you can buy for the money. i have a p90 i paid 250 bucks for back in 99 and it has always been 100% reliable and as accurate as any pistol i own to include my glocks, HK's and Sigs. you can't go wrong with a super redhawk and i think a 44 would be a good addition since you already have two semi's. if it were me i would buy a 45 or the 44 because i like variety and would get bored quickly shooting the same caliber gun. good luck with whatever you decide and if you can rent the guns you're interested in buying and see which one you handle best.

You don't say what you'd use it for, so I'll throw in a couple of options.

If looking for a range/fun gun, check out a S&W K frame like a model 19, 66, 686, etc. chambered in .357magnum. You can find them in the $325-$450 price range if you look around. I like the models chambered in .357 so you have the option of shooting either 357 of 38 special.

Another possibility to look into is a .22 - either pistol or wheel gun. They are tons of fun at the range or for plinking cans. With the price of ammo, you can afford to shoot them all day. They are also great noobie shooter training guns to teach those new to shooting and are also great for practicing trigger control for yourself. They are a nice change of pace from shooting the other calibers.

If you are looking for another carry gun chambered in .40, go with the P229. Sounds like you like your P239, so chances are you'd love a P229. If you are patient, you should be able to find one for $500 or close to it. Sig designed the P229 around the .40S&W and IMHO, it's one of the best .40's out there.

    Good luck with your search!

A nice 1911 in .45 would be a great carry gun. I carry a Colt Commander and really like the way it feels small.

    If you didn't already have the P239, I'd say a Sig P6/225.

However, every gun collection needs at least 1 revolver, so my suggestion is a 4" stainless Ruger GP-100.
