    Default S&W Shorty 40

Yesterday, I picked up a Shorty 40 from a friend of mine. He purchased it new about 10 years ago and had high praise for it. He's moving out of state and is thinning the herd (so to speak). Just wondering if anyone has owned or fired one before. Won't have a chance to get to the range for a couple of weeks. Would welcome any input.

It would help if we had a model number or something to go off of, seeing as how the .40 is labeled .40S&W and is a short 10mm, I don't know if your referring to the caliber or the make and model of the pistol...

    I've shot plenty of .40s

    Glock 22
    Glock 23

    Para P16-40
    Kimber CDP Pro .40
    Kimber Ultra Carry .40
    Kimber Pro Carry .40

    Kahr PM40

    Steyr ____ .40

I liked them all. with the exception of the G23 and the Kimber Ultra, suprising enough they had more felt recoil than the Kahr PM40 which is considerably smaller.

Are you referring to the SW990L?

Shorty 40 is the name, it's a Performance Center pistol in .40 caliber. From what I understand they were made by S&W for Lew Horton Distributors. I tbelieve it's a custom 6906.

According to the Blue Book of Gun Values it is a Model 4006 Stainless, 3 1/2" bbl, either a 10 or 11 shot mag, satin stainless finish, exposed hammer, Delrin one piece wrap around grips, 3 dot sights. Made from 1990-1999. worth $400-$655 (95%-100%). May have come with adjustable sights or fixed Tritium night sights (new in 1992). Both of the last two items increases the value.
