russian guns

i'm kinda starting to have a thing for this red stuff.
i picked up this m91/30 the other week and i can see myself going back for an m44carbine shortly.

anybody into these things, if not you should be.
cheap guns to buy and just as cheap to feed them.

I have a M91/30 and a M44. I haven't fired either one yet. (Cleaning cosmoline has become my most recent passtime).
The M1938 is between the M91/30 and the M44. Same ammo, same low price, same basic appearance. I think I'm gonna have to get one. (Not to round out the set, but to give me some more cosmoline to clean off

The Mosin-Nagant family of battle rifles represents (in my opinion) the finest military weapon for the money. Sure they're no benchrest rifle, but they're actually well made, accurate, and fun.

I love them, and own 2 91/30's myself. (Bought a second one for scope mounting, but decided not to...)

EDIT: Glad to see AIM-Surplus back in stock of the Mosin's. Of course thats bad for me since they have my FFL on file hehe.

I am a HUGE fan of the Russian Guns. The M44 has been fantastic, and the SKS is a beast.

I have to agree that you can't beat the quality for the money. I bought a M44 at the Harrisburg show a few months ago just because it was so cheap. I took it apart to scrub & rub, and realized that it's really a well made weapon. It doesn't lend itself very well to mounting a scope with traditional (inexpensive) methods, but it's easy to strip, easy to clean, feels solid and has the feel of a good quality gun. I had to get a M91/30 for S&G, now I want a M1938, and I'll probably get at least one more of each.

I know what you mean about having your FFL on file being "bad", it's too easy to see something and make an impulse buy. But when you think about it, that's really a good thing. (That's what I'm trying to convince my wife of, any advice there? She isn't too receptive of my investment theory).

Only because the Soviets severely overspent on their military between 1945-1980s and financially fell under the weight of their own armor, not because it's cheap junk. So, when the supply dries up, the prices will rise to reflect their real value. Guys that have closets full of them will reap profits selling after importation ends.

The same scenario happened with German small arms at the end of W.W.II.

Summary: go ahead and stock up. Tell the wife PA Rifleman said it's O-Tay.

i would say it's a bit ''cruder'' than our stuff, but definintly not junk.
