Jena 6 case wrapped up with plea bargain
JENA, La. – Five members of the Jena Six have pleaded no contest to misdemeanor simple battery and were sentenced to seven days probation and fined $500 plus court costs.
It was a far less severe end to their cases than seemed possible when the six students were initially charged with attempted murder in a 2006 attack on Justin Barker. They became known as the "Jena Six," after the central Louisiana town where the beating happened.
Later, charges against Carwin Jones, Jesse Ray Beard, Robert Bailey Jr., Bryant Purvis and Theo Shaw were reduced to aggravated second-degree battery. The only member of the group to serve jail time was Mychal Bell, who pleaded guilty to second-degree battery and was sentenced to 18 months.
A civil hearing is also scheduled today to settle Barker's lawsuit against the group.

From attempted murder to no charges. If it had of been 6 white kids would it still have been pleaded down to no charges.
For those that don't remember 6 African American kids beat up a white kid on school ground for a supposed racial slur the day before !

did you really expect justice?
If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.

Re: Jena 6 case wrapped up with plea bargain
That is exactly what makes me so disgusted about this. We are protecting certain classes of people and saying they deserve more protection than others. We are supposed to be equal. If blacks or anyone for that matter, homosexuals, etc. want equal treatment they need to realize it's a two way street. This all comes back to the same thing. We are all AMERICANS. Blacks share our history and should be even more grateful for their freedom than many of us looking at their history.
