I've gotten an email in response to one of my resumes regarding becoming an insurance agent, apparently enroute to owning my own agency. The insurance company is a well known one, so I'm not worried about this being a scam. What I am curious about is any first hand input on what being an insurance agent is all about, and if now is a good time to be jumping into the insurance busness? The email says this company provides subsidies for the first two years, in addition to commissoin. Two years seems an ample time to me to learn the business, but is it really? Frankly, I'm kind of excited at the prospect of branching out in this direction. Seems like it may provide a very good living for my family, since work isn't something I'm scared of, and work best on my own.
