Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 ?

Pros and cons of both? I am leaning towards the Remington.

I went through this last year, I ended up getting the Mossberg because I found one first. I really would have gotten either one.

The biggest difference is the safety. Mossberg has the safety on the tang, the Remington has the safety by the trigger guard. I like it on the tang with a normal shotgun stock, but if you want a pistol grip you need it down by the trigger.

The Remington is "tighter", but I found it to be more expensive. My Mossberg came with two barrels and 3 choke tubes for what I could find basic 870s with one barrel and 1 choke tube.

depends on what your using it for. You might what to be a little more specific on your intentions. Are you just keeping it for HD or are you going to hunt and play gun games with it?

HD comes to mind at this time.

The Remington is better and it cost more. You can get more after market things for it like stocks, barrels, chokes, extender tubes, lights and sights. Don't pass up a good deal on the Mossberg if you only want it for HD. But the Remington is better. This is from some one that has 6 Remingtons and two Mossbergs.

Does either company offer better after sale service?

Get a Remington 870 and you wont need any after sale service. Theres a reason why so many thousands of people love them, including myself. Mine is older than me, and its been passed down from my friends father, to my friend, and then to me. Always goes boom.

i chose the 870....

I liked the safety better, felt more solid than the 500, was more money but i believe it was worth it.

I think we all go through this when looking for that first shotgun...500 or 870...

Can't really go wrong with either one. Get which ever one you can pick up used for around $200.

I really like my Mossberg, but I really like my friends 870 as well.....

i prefer the safety on the mossy better. other than that is 6 in one half dozzen in the other
