Default Mounts for an A2 upper

well im thinking about putting a red dot on my AR. im not going to do it for a couple months, but i want to start looking now incase i see any good deals. whats the best way to to mount one on an A2 upper with a carry handle? should i mount it right on top of the handle, or use one of the ones that mounts to the handle but drops in front of it. or buy a new hand guard with rails on it and mount it up there? it looks like the handle mounts are cheaper but how much better are they?

    The A.R.M.S. gooseneck.

should i mount it right on top of the handle,
Definitely NOT. You'll never get a proper cheekweld.

or use one of the ones that mounts to the handle but drops in front of it.
    Yes, the A.R.M.S. gooseneck.

You need a quality set of HG's, preferably free float. For that kind of money you could almost buy a flat top upper.

The gooseneck mount attaches at two points, in the hole in the carry handle and it clamps at the front. It's quite secure and it gets the optic on the same plane as the front sight post for a good cheekweld.

Without having to modify anything on your current AR15, you can buy an ARMS mount and a Delta Cheek piece and that will do what you want for the least amount of efforts.
