These rifles shoot nice. It takes getting used to the recoiling barrel, bolt, and bolt carrier. Introduced in 1936 and made until 1950. Mechanically identical to the Model 8. The 81 was chambered for the .25, 30, .32, and .35 Remington cartridges. It was also offered in .300 Savage. Production of the 81 in .25 Remington was very limited, and not even catalogued in this caliber. They were never regularly furnished with detachable magazines. The Model 81 Police Special was offered with a 15 round detachable box-magazine.

My local shop just took one in on trade today.

There were several different grades of this rifle. From plain to full engraving and gold inlay. Most encountered are .35 rem. Calibers. Values for the standard grade go from $400 in 100% to $150.00 in 60%.
