This deals with Assisted Opening knives. It is brought up here before: http://forum.pafoa.org/national-11/6...-o-knives.html
Be safe (and now, it looks like unassisted).

Re: Now they want our pocket knives!!!!
Does this mean I can expect price gouging and shortages on my preferred knives? Should I stockpile some Spyderco's now?

What's the problem, CBP can't make laws. Only congress can.

Re: Now they want our pocket knives!!!!
The problem is that existing laws that are ambiguous on the definition of “switchblade” and previous court cases about the same have relied on the Customs & Border Protection definition. If Customs & Border Protection were to reverse that definition and start including assisted-opening knives as “switchblades” and any one-handed opening knife as an “inertia or gravity knife”, then those ambiguous laws and any future similar court cases now rely on a definition that makes them illegal.

Re: Now they want our pocket knives!!!!
And they aren't making them. What they are doing, however, is changing their mind on what meets certain definitions and saying "All of those rulings that we made that date back 5+ years ago, you know, the ones that you relied on for product design, factory tooling, advertising, marketing and distribution, well forget about it! No grandfathering. What we said was legal to import now is no longer legal to import.
What I want to know is, how is something that is determined not to be a switchblade suddenly determined to be a switchblade?

Re: Now they want our pocket knives!!!!
What is this, England? I mean, c'mon, our entire nation's economy is in the tanker and circling fast, and they're wasting time worrying about knives?
The crappy stainless tin kitchen knives they sell at WalMart are more deadly than a wee little Spyderco or Kershaw. Hell, most 'knife' attacks are committed with $1 industrial box cutters, not $80-$100 assisted opening folders.
