On Wednesday I finally got my M1 Garand

Hi, all.

Wednesday I drove out to Throop to pick up my M1 Garand, and I have to say it's slightly better than I expected, but does need some work. The stock appears to be quite new, and has a nice finish. The windage knob is the really old one, with the lever on the right, and it's corroded and stuck. The buttplate has a gun screw, and a wooden screw, but the parkerization on it is not too bad. The overall parkerization is dark, with minimal corrosion or rust spots. Obviously the barrel needs a total douching, as it is filthy, and probably hasn't been fired in 5 years. The action will need a total cleaning; there is still some goop and cosmoline in there. Yes, it'll need a little work, but that's why I bought it. I'm taking it out to Orion 7 in Long Island to a guy that runs the "M1 Hospital." There they do a 36 pt. inspection, and give you the "prognosis" for the rifle. I'm hoping it requires nothing more than a thorough cleaning, minor part replacement, and a lube job. Then we got to git er' down to the range. Has anyone else shot their new M1's yet??

Pictures Pictures Pictures....I feel like I am the only person not sitting with a new M1 and I am beginning to get jealous. I think the only thing short of me running out and buying one is drooling over yours.

Congrats on the new rifle. I have shot my new M1 but not with M2 Ball ammo.(I thought I could shoot any 30-06 round without a problem)

I am looking for some M2 Ball ammo to take it out tomorrow. If anyone knows where I can get some in Lebanon county let me know.

OP: Where are the pics?

Not sure about Lebanon county, but J&G's up in Throop has a bit of the M2 sealed cases. I'd have bought some, but due to the work I'll be having done on the rifle, I held off.
