ALWAYS CHECK YOUR BARREL!!!
Now I will have to give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he got some debris on the barrel when he was trekking through... But you should always practice gun safety and learn how to keep the gun off the ground... This is a good way to ruin a great rifle!

Re: ALWAYS CHECK YOUR BARREL!!!
I wonder if he didn't put the wrong shell in the rifle as well... it looked like he was having some serious trouble closing the bolt, possible he over powdered it
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Re: ALWAYS CHECK YOUR BARREL!!!
I find it hard to believe some mud/dirt caused that.

Re: ALWAYS CHECK YOUR BARREL!!!
Most likely an obstruction. If it were a wrong shell, like an oversized projectile, the chamber and breech would have 'naded instead.
If it were a Sako or Tikka, it could have been just a bad barrel.

Re: ALWAYS CHECK YOUR BARREL!!!
I slipped and stabbed the muzzle of my AK into the ground on a nasty wet day during a 3 gun and thought of this video. Took the FH off and used a wire to probe up the barrel to clear it. The flash hider acted like a funnel and there was a 4" plug of debris in the barrel.
Sucked cleaning it out, (think garden hose) but it beats blowing it up.

Re: ALWAYS CHECK YOUR BARREL!!!
Damn!
Chicago North Side bootlegger Dion O'Banion used to think a great prank was to pour cement down a shotgun barrel then bet people they couldn't hit a door with a shotgun, handing them the boobytrapped shotty. Much fun was had by all, and one of these pranked gangsters grew up to be none other than Elmer Fudd."When law becomes despotic, morals are relaxed, and vice versa."-- Honore de Balzac, The Wild Ass's Skin...huh, huh..Balzac...Wild Ass...huh, huh

Re: ALWAYS CHECK YOUR BARREL!!!
I saw the same video on youtube. The thing you don't see on this clip is his buddies basically saying "the hell with you" and firing on the elk while he stands there with his teeth in his mouth trying to figure out where he messed up.

Re: ALWAYS CHECK YOUR BARREL!!!
Seems strange that they would be video taping the shooter not the game at the point of squeezing off the round. That leads me to think it maybe somewhat staged.
If God didn't intend us to have guns why would he have given us a trigger finger?

Yes I wondered that too. Why wasn't it focused in on the elk?
