Parable of the Second Amendment

From the Book of Ellis, Chapter 1, Verses 1-6

1. Verily I say unto thee, that thy rod and thy staff, they tremble. For there are those who would cast thine sword into a fiery pit and leave you to the mercy of others.

2. Seek about thee for those who torment, slay them with words, as they would slay you. Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, yet recognize that some things are not and shall not be Caesar’s,

3. Go forth into the lion’s den and turn out the representatives of Cesar who would defile their very office with the oppression of their subjects. Fear not their wrath, for they trespass the rule of the land. As they sow, so shall they reap; if power be their authority, so shall it be their undoing, for the ultimate power resides in thee. Cast not your lot among the sheep, nay, let your voice be heard.

4. Yea, the very animals of the field, the birds of the sky, even the creatures of the seas are born into the world defenseless. Yet such is their nature that they seek to defend themselves immediately, and develop various means of defense to insure their survival. It is Right that they do so.

5. Yet, Caesar has ruled, throughout various provinces, that such defense shall be stripped from thee, that thee shall go naked among thine enemies. Go forth then, and render unto Caesar the verdict that such Right shall not be forgone; remove not the Right of the people lest ye be removed in turn.

6. Thou must assemble the very weapon of word just as Caesar’s minions have done, and flail about you in retribution. Drive from the land that which renders you helpless, it is thine only hope. Desiderata not withstanding, all is not right in the world as long as the Right of the people is proscribed.
