Program length: 8 Hrs

The course will emphasize safe gun handling, transporting rifles in beat cars, exiting the beat car with a rifle, securing the rifle in the beat car, correct mounting procedure, shooting position, trigger manipulation, recovery and retargeting, reloading, range estimation, and the proper employment of the weapon's sighting system. Next, we will move on to effective engagement of multiple targets, using a rest, and the use of cover. Safety and correct gun handling will be stressed and expected of all students throughout the course.

Other topics include: Reduction of common stoppages, sight adjustments, adjusting for wind and extended range, ammunition selection, and proper tactical defensive employment.

Students will each supply their own rifle, handgun, holster, and safety equipment (baseball cap, glasses, hearing protection). Each student will need two hundred rounds of rifle ammunition and twenty rounds of handgun ammunition.

All rifles must be equipped with a sling, so that they may be safely carried. Handguns must be in strong-side waist holster.

Rifles in 7.62x39, 7.62x51, 30M1 Carbine, and 5.56x45 are all suitable. The best rifle for this training is a military autoloader, but we will accept pistol-cartridge firing rifles in 9mm, 40S&W, 357SIG, and 45ACP. Military bolt guns are suitable.

Iron sights are suitable. Low-power, forward-mounted scopes are suitable. High-magnification, close-eye-relief scopes are not recommended.

Who is John Farnam?[/B]

John Farnam is a weapons and tactics instructor who will urge you, based on your own beliefs, to make up your mind in advance as to what you would do when faced with an imminent and unlawful lethal threat. He will guide you in deciding what preparations you should make in advance, if any. Defense Training International wants to make sure that their students fully understand the physical, legal, psychological, and societal consequences of their actions or inactions.

John has written articles about defensive shooting and defensive tactics for several magazines, including Police Marksman, American Handgunner, Combat Handguns, Guns and Ammo, Soldier of Fortune.

He has also written three books: The Street-Smart Gun Book, The Farnam Method of Defensive Handgunning, and The Farnam Method of Defensive Shotgun and Rifle Shooting.

The thrust of his training programs is the encouragement of safe, responsible, and effective use of modern firearms in self-defense. John Farnam was awarded the prestigious "Tactical Advocate of the Year" title by the American Tactical Shooting Association (ATSA) in June, 1996. The presentation was
made at the conclusion of the Sixth Annual National Invitational held at the Gunsite Training Center in Paulden, Arizona.
