Homicide Suspect Arrested Before Schenley Prom

HIGHLAND PARK (KDKA) ― A Pittsburgh teenager thought he was going to the prom but he ended up being arrested.

Friday night was prom night for students from Schenley High School.

Before the prom, students lined up at Highland Park where police spotted 17-year-old Earl Hawkins.

He was wanted in connection with the shooting death of James Owens in Brighton Heights.

When police saw him, he ran off, but police tackled him.

Hawkins was then taken in for question and transported to the Allegheny County Jail.
