Worker shot dead at Lawrence County convenience store

Police were investigating a deadly shooting last night at a Lawrence County convenience store..

Gunfire at the Marathon gas station at East Wallace and Highland avenues in New Castle was reported just after 9 p.m., emergency dispatchers said.

New Castle police said a store employee, Hussein Alghooran, 40, of New Castle, was lying outside the front of the store with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the incident appears to have been a robbery attempt.

The investigation continues. New Castle police ask that anyone with information regarding the shooting call the Detective Bureau at 724-656-3586.

Damn. poor guy was just trying to earn a living, probably for his family, and some scum criminal did him in...such a waste.

I think there is something more that motivated the killing. If it were a robbery attempt he wouldn't have been outside the store IMO. I hope he wasn't shot over his ethnic background.

My prayers go out to this poor gentleman and his loved ones. I hope they nail the scumbag who's responsible for this.

It's not really a convenience store. More like a gas station with a very small area with snacks and smokes. Two steps from the counter to the outside of the store.

Ok, now I get the picture of the place. I was thinking of a mini-mart type place with gas pumps. This sounds like the kind of place where the employee is sitting outside the booth on stacks of soda until they need to ring up someone.

Sad that it happened.
