Default Camping (or why I mostly missed to group shoot)

As I mentioned to a few of ya, I went camping at the beginning of this week over spending much time at the group shoot. It was a good time.

Setting up the camp. The flash on the camera is amazing, so you cant tell that it is past midnight and pitch black by the time we got to where we were. About 4 miles from any road or trail.

The next day we set up the rest of the site. We expected rain on Monday (thank goodness none came) so we set this guy up. This is me lobbing the string over a tree about 40ft up and 20 ft away. I think it was Brandon that actually got that one.

Same deal, just hoisting it up.

The site done. We found a pretty sick spot with the trees as they are. Gave us "shelves." not only because of where the trees are, but of how they were shaped. there was also a pretty major stream near by.

We spent most of our time cutting wood

    shooting

    being lazy

and hiking. The bayonet made for a good "get out of my way, branch!" device.

We started packing tuesday to head back. It was much hotter then during the hike in, so we got started early, knowing what was ahead.

One last picture before we take off.

    about half way back

Looks like you had a good time.

The photo of you with the AR(back to camera)is nice.
It's cool that you took the photos.

Oh, and what is the name of the "machete/axe" that your friend(Robin Hood?)is carrying? I think I've seen one somewhere, but I can't recall where.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Its a two-handed machette made by Cold Steel. Inexpensive, and indestrucable (within reason)

I love cold steel stuff. I have one of their tantos from the mid-80s and a folding tanto from the same time frame. Neither one has had to be sharpened.

you? maybe you're the one of twelve people we encountered dressed basically as you see us (minus the carried weapons/blades) at a little ma-and-pa convenience store. We were there for quite some time. I had the gun and my bayonet in its scabbard. My buddy had a shoulder harness holding a blade and his one handed machete on his side.

No one seemed to care, which is what we expected. We considered "dis arming" before going in, but being a big camping area, we figured they're used to it around here. Cept one trucker. He called the man. Two state boys show up and talk to him in the parking lot for a few minutes, then come in as me and Brandon are eating at a table. He comes and asks what we got, we tell him. He asks to "see" my sidearm, so I stand up and direct that side of my body to him. He took our names and numbers, but that’s it. He just asked if we were aware of how nervous we might make some people being dressed as we were. I explained that we were aware, but we thought about it and decided that the locals were probably used to it. He really did not care about it. …didn’t even ask to check my serial number or any of that non-sense.

I wish the guy didn’t call, but I’m happy with the way the police handled it.

a fantastic area. Allegheny National Forest.

The dispersed recreation policy allows you to pop a tent up darn near anywhere and have a blast. Firearms permitted with very few regulations on where you can shoot. That was a big selling point for us. It can get boring out there.

The only problem is there are many state parks and game lands within the ANF. As we all know, they are much more restrictive so you just need to be sure you avoid them.
