with todays tech we can make them far less primitive, build it from stainless steel and put it in a room with stainless steel walls and you only need a garden hose to clean up so there goes the mess problem. And while we're at it, lets use a 20ft long blade so we can execute several prisoners at once thus increasing the efficiency.
