DEMOCRATIC LEADERS INDICATE THAT HIGHER TAXES LIKELY
According to an article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the Democratic members of the state House Appropriations Committee yesterday said they have no plans of approving the $27.3 billion budget proposal, adopted by Senate Republicans early this month. In a public forum held at Point Park University, Rep. Dwight Evans, D-Philadelphia and chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, described the Republican proposal, as “irresponsible” and lacking a sound “rationale” for the massive cuts it proposes. However, raising taxes will ultimately be the way to go. “Gov. [Dick] Thornburgh raised taxes in a recession, so did [Bob] Casey and [Tom] Ridge,” Mr. Evans said. “Now, Gov. Rendell is going to have to raise taxes.” “Now is the time to do something because of next year’s political climate. We’re going to have half the Senate up for re-election, the full House and a governor’s race. It will be very tough to get people to make tough votes by then,” said Joe Markosek, (D-Allegheny) chairman of the House Transportation Committee. Maybe someone should show these guys the California population numbers.
The producers are fleeing the state. 1/2 of this years deficit is due to the high income people leaving the state after tax increases over the last three years.

A Democrat pollster Pat Caddell was on Fox yesterday morning and he said that California because of their high tax rates is losing 3,000 people a day, seven days a week fifty two weeks a year. Works out to close to three percent are leaving each year.

NY is hemmoraging money because people that produce and pay most of the taxes are moving. The recession is also killing the incomes of the high producers on Wall Street which is also a major factor.

Heck the Buffalo Sabres owner that is leaving NY is contributing $4.75 million in income taxes each year. That is the pay of sixty state workers that is going to be gone over night.

This attitude will back fire when the state say to the resident YOU have to handle more tax burden and cut back so WE in state government don't have to give up any of our perks.

Remember what happened with the 3:00 am pay raise?
