References for LTCF?
I was filling out my application for my LTCF and put down two friends who have known me for about 30 years. Both are fine upstanding pillars of the community.
Then I went to the sheriff's web site to get the address to mail the the application and I'm re-reading the information. Both references must live in Pennsylvania.
What's up with that? Are non-Pennsylvanians not trustworthy?
I don't want many people around here to know that I even own guns.
Sheesh!

Re: References for LTCF?
IIRC there's nothing in the statute that states that despite the fact it's spouted by many a sheriffs office.
We really need to get these sheriffs on the same page. I read the flier that the Philly sheriff sends out and it's amazing how much bullshit is on there.

Re: References for LTCF?
I think that I'll submit it anyway and see what happens. The worst that can happen is that they'll call me and I'll say, "It didn't say that on the form."
Maybe they just don't want to have to make long distance calls.

Re: References for LTCF?
My references were not called before I was issued a LTCF. Neither reference lived in my county.

Re: References for LTCF?
This is bogus.
The Cumberland County Sheriff states your references MUST be Cumberland County residents, so his "rules" profess to be even more restrictive. I list Cumberland residents each time, but not one of them has ever been contacted.Jake8147

Re: References for LTCF?
When my wife got her LTCF a couple of weeks ago she put 2 people from Hazleton, (we live 10 mins from there), We are from Carbon County so they made her change the references. They told her they were "required" to be from the same county. I asked where it said that and they said it was the requirement. We know people here to so she did it just to get out of the office. But I didn't see anywhere on the form where it said it was a requirement. I was going out of town and wanted her to have her LTCF so she could keep my pistol with her while I was gone. So we didn't put up an argument.
If zombies start chasing us, I'm going to trip you!

Re: References for LTCF?
The 3 references that we need for Northampton county can be from anywhere. All of mine were from Jersey and they never called any of them.

Re: References for LTCF?
On the PA form: they request your reference's "PA" DL number. . . . .
I do not know how that is going to turn out.
