    Default Dunham's is going crazy

Stopped at Dunhams in Altoona today to look around. Walked back to the firearms, and the first thing I notice is a sign that says they have to charge everyone $3 to do a background check on them. And then $2 more for processing I think it was.

    But wait.....

Then I noticed a sign on the counter and I had to take a picture of it with my camera to make sure that I read it right and that I post it corrrectly here. It said this.....

    Currrently firearms sales at this
    location must obtain approval prior
    to releasing the firearm.

    4473 forms may be completed
but firearms cannot be released until
    approval is obtained.

    Approvals can only be obtained
    MONDAY - FRIDAY
    9 AM to 5 PM

    We apologize for any
    inconvience this may cause.

Huh... that's funny. We walked out with an AMD 65 a couple weeks ago at 8PM.

Filled out the form, they call it in, out we went. We never have a problem with Dunhams. But we've bought a few firearms from them, and I frequently buy ammo there.

I noticed that at the Monroeville and Century 3 Dunhams as well. I don't think I'll ever buy a gun there again; they don't even have super cheap Mosin's anymore.

That sign's been there for a while, or at least there was a similar one there when I was in the store last summer. Approval from Dunham's corporate office. From what I was told, that store was having some problems with "not quite proper" sales. It was last year, and I can't remember exactly what the employee told me. Paperwork errors, I think, but I'm not positive.

That sign has been up for almost a year.
And they stick to it. I know because one of my friends picked up a 10/22 last year. He had to go back in between those hours to get the checks run and pick it up.

Probably relates to the PICS hours, regardless - they've gotta be THE most anal-retentive franchise that exists. Even more than Dick's.

But fortunately, they still sell guns...

Remember the guy who bought the shotgun then went down to Reese and shot his grandparents?

Guess where he got the gun and the ammo.

I go into Dunhams when they put Remington 12 gauge Sport Loads on sale to feed my Saiga-12. Ever since I got the sales pitch from the former? gun counter guy about the Saigas coming out in 28 gauge and .223 WSSM I tend not to take anything serious in there.

My husband bought me a Bushmaster last October. He put it on hold and I went back later to do the paperwork. I believe it was a Saturday night, right before they closed. We had no problems (besides the fact that they forgot to give us the key). This was at Dunhams in Butler.

No, this has nothing to do with PICS. I know one of their Assistant Managers, he told me they need Dunhams corporate approval for firearms purchases in certain stores when the stores are new, or when too many screwups are made on paperwork or pricing. Kinda like double secret probation.
