Default Your 1st Gun (sentimental value)

We love seeing pics of really cool ARs, AKs, hi-cap pistols, etc. However, do you guys have your first guns, maybe given to you buy a parent?

This is the first gun I was given. I remember the day I got it. My step-father took me down to a local store that sold some firearms. It was kind of a cross between an ACE hardware and small time sporting goods store. This gun was $40 back in 1982. It's a single shot .410 and I don't think I ever missed a squirrel with it. I'll never sell it. My goal is to make sure my son gets to bag a few squirrels with it and hand it down to his son.

I agree there are a few guns I will keep around until I pass them down.
My first gun that I bought was a .22 savage mark II Bolt action. I got this when I was about 15. My next gun my grandfather gave me was a Type 99 Jap WWII infantry rifle.
I have a few WWII and Pre War guns that I will keep around as well.
My first hand gun is my XD-40 SC. These guns have won a spot in my heart for the long hall. My old man taught me to never sell my guns to buy another gun... You will always wish you still had it later down the road... So my collection will just keep on growing.. So far I am hovering around 30 Boom Sticks... Who knows how big it will get?

I still have my first shotgun, an old Harrington and Richardson Arms "Bay State" 20 gauge. It was the first gun my Dad ever shot, and he gave it to me when I was 12. It's nickname is "Rusty Trusty". It really only has sentimental value.

    I still have my first 22 from 1963. Ithaca Mod 49 single shot. I think my dad paid 22 dollars for it. I don't have anyone to give it to, so I think I"ll take it with me. Hate to get to heaven and have nothing to shoot. {I"m taking ammo also}
The other gun I won't part with was given to me by my grandfather. SXS Lafever Nitro Special 16 ga. It may be going with me also.

I actually have every gun that I ever bought. At one time each one was bought for a specific purpose.

My first gun was a Marlin 781 bolt action 22 s/l/lr. I still have it, won't sell it ever.

I still have my first BB gun too. A Daisy Red Ryder. I was planing to pass the air rifle off to my son when he was old enough. I couldn't do it. I couldn't give it up even though I hadn't shot it in years. I went out an bought him his own and we shot them together for a few years.

I still have every gun I have ever owned as well. Luckily I have never been in a situation where I had to sell any of them.

    I have mine.

A J.C. Higgins (Sears, Roebuck and Co.) 6+1 bolt action 16 gauge shotgun that I'll never get rid of until I hand it down to another generation.

It belonged to my Grandfather, who let me use it for my first white tail hunt when I was 16, which back then was the youngest we were [legally] allowed to hunt big game.

Our high school was virtually void of all boys 16 and up on the first day of the season each year, and a lot of the male teachers came down with the same mysterious illness that day. My Grampa, dad and I got up at some ungodly hours, I had my first cup of coffee in my life, and we walked into the woods via flashlight.

The plan was to find a good spot to sit until shortly after day break, and then meet up with some others to talk about drives and such, and we had whistles with codes in case we needed each other before then. I found a good tree I could climb and wedge myself in, got up there and promptly fell asleep.

I was woken by a rustling noise, and after I realized I was 20' off the ground and why I was there, I slowly turned to see three large doe walking a path I had scouted out earlier in the year. I sat patiently until they got to the spot I thought I'd have my best shot. By the time they got there, I must have had so much adrenaline built up, once I fired the first round and they took off, I emptied the magazine.

I saw them run, and watched as they disappeared into the woods thinking I blew my first chance, but a voice inside my head was trying to convince me that I only saw two run away. I climbed down out of my tree and sure enough, right where they were when I shot, a beautiful doe lay with a hole right above the shoulder. I began to blow my whistle to signal my Grampa and dad, and I think about other 20 hunters came from out of nowhere to see what was going on. It was all a blur to me, but they were laughing their asses off saying they thought world war three was breaking out and insisting I had a full auto shotty because of how fast I got off 7 rounds.

I don't know who was prouder, me or my Grampa, but he said right then and there that that's the first deer taken with that gun in 40 years, so it must've been destined to be mine, and I've kept it with great pride ever since.

What did you expect from me, a short answer?

I still own my first firearm, a Glock 22. When I bought it, "hi cap" mags were verboten so I still have the original 10 rounders it came with. I actually still have the bill of sale and my first background check copy. I was going through my papers today and organizing all my firearms records. I paid cash for it, after scrimping and saving at my first job post Army.

Still fits like a glove, and still shoots like a champ.

Since I've only recently gotten the ability to go full bore into this hobby, I've acquired many "firsts" in the past two years. Most recent is my first wheelgun,my now beloved S&W 642.
