Default Mags sticking. What can I do.

I have a CW9 that I used at IDPA shoot today. My biggest problem was that the magazines sometimes wouldn't fall out when they were empty and I hit the mag release. They would only drop down a little bit before stopping and hanging up, and, I would have to shake the pistol or grab the bottom of the mag and pull them out. Is there anything that I can do to make them slide out easier and completely?

Paint them with a dry erase marker and see where they rub. Polish with 2000 grit wet/dry paper or a light squeeze in the vise, in most cases, will do the trick. Sometimes when they stick coming half way out the feedlips may be spread a bit and need tightened.

Make sure your grips aren't on too tight as well.

    Randy,

Try pushing a mag into the magwell slowly.
You will feel the resistance of the mag release button holding the mag in the well. Do not seat the mag or push the mag release button.

The mag will stay in place throughout the travel of the mag in and out loaded or not.

    Now, seat a mag completely.
With no part of the heel of your hand touching the mag, it will drop free.

IF there is the slightest friction of the heel of your hand touching the mag body in any way, it will feel the same as that initial partial insertion of the mag into the well and will stick.

    What I'm saying is this.

All the mags will drop free. Try this with unloaded mags and cup your hand over the slide to release them. They will all drop free.

If there is any resistance caused by your hand rubbing on the mag, it will not completely release. It will release if you continue to press the mag release throughout the mag dropping out.

I just tried this with all 6 of my P9 mags and they all did it the same. All dropped free when there was no resistance against mag body. All stuck as a partial discharge when the heel of my hand slowed the release and the release button was not held in throughout the mag releasing.

I think in the heat of competition, your hand is partially blocking the mag from releasing.

You can train to pull each mag every time as an option.

Or, your lips are spread a bit

Let me know if you want me to post pics if you're not completely clear on this. It won't be till tomorrow though as it is half hour past my bedtime now.

You can send it to me with a self abused stomped antelop and I will do my best to make it work right. You may/may not get it back before Christmas

Ahhhh, the squeezing the magazine top together seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks a ton guys. Sometimes it is the simeple things that make all the difference in the world.

And I learned a lot from such a simple question.

yeah i figured it out after you posted it the mag was probably bent out, sometimes they dont fabricate them perfect enough , metals are very unstable and hard to try to make perfect in shape.

Feedlip spread is often just due to loading mags to full capacity with a heavy mag spring.

Mags just need maintenance like everything else.
