    Default First LEO encounter

    So heres the story:

I was walking to work to see if I worked sunday or not ( live a mile from where I am working), on the way back a police SUV was creeping by me. I knew what he was going to ask me before he even stopped. Here is what went down.

LEO " You got anything on your belt I should know about "
ME " I got a sidearm on my left side, an I have a LTCF"
LEO " I am going to remove it and hold onto it, till I make sure your not a terrorist "( said joking )
Me " Okay sir, May I ask what the problem is?"
LEO " Someone called in saying there was a male with a gun"
LEO " Come over here so I dont embarriss you."
Me " Oh hell, I was just walking home. Yeah, I really dont want people watchen this" ( By this time there were 3 other squad cars to assist.)

The LEO told the others I have a LTC an I have done everything he asked.

LEO " Yeah, your shirt must have blown out. Someone saw you Carrying, It is kind of a windy day."
Me " Yeah, it sure is...
LEO " What kind of holster is that you have "
    Me " Don Hume "
LEO " Yeah I like that, I need to get my permit renewed. I dont need it but would like to have it. Sorry about his we are just doing your job. We take this stuff seriously."
Me " Yes sir, I understand."
LEO " I understand people getting a ltcf an we encourage them to carry, but I had to check to make sure your not wanted for anything.
Me " I understand, I wounder what would happen if I OC'd Daily..." ( Didnt say nuthing)

Then they asked my phone number gave my LTCF an ID back. Asked how long I carried, if I carry everywhere. Gave me my clip an 9mm back. Told me they were sorry for the trouble they were just doing there job ( Again) An I could go on my way.

    My thoughts:

I know I should of questioned them a bit, I just wanted to go along my way. Kind of Ironic though, He was joking about me being a terrorist but he stated they take firearm reports seriously. I wanted to tell them my thoughts but I didnt want to get into a conflict with them. I am pleased how the main officer handled it other then taking my firearm from me. With really no reason, but I told him it was okay to do so.

Kind of pissed me off, but the main officer was very polite. Tried to talk to me, but the other was drilling me with redundant questions. The third officer just wrote my info down an didnt say a word.

(I am still a bit shook up from this.)

What is you guys take on this? Please no OC vs CC.

You weren't specific, so was your firearm originally covered or were you carrying openly?
John Stuart Mill noted: ‘A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares about more than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.’

This whole taking your gun off you bit is starting to bug me. Not only because of your encounter. But there was three officers in your encounter. Was this also for your safety? You had your ltcf. You told them you did. Did they also run your number to see if it was stolen.

    Just rambling a bit.

    BS. He needs re-trained.

    Bullshit.
Carrying a gun, in itself, is not reason to check anything.

They are often polite while they intimidate you into consenting and/or violate your rights.

It will continue as long as people continue to consent.

Yeah, they took my gun off of me right after I told them I had a LTCF. Then after my gun was removed they wanted to see my ltcf, when he did the guy was starting to joke around with me. I dont know about the officers, he said about embarrising me. An I was like yeah, there is enough of you. That is when he said they take calls like " That" seriously. Made me wounder who saw my gun an what the hell they told the LEO in the first place..

That probably should have been the end of it there...or you just answering, "No, sir, I don't" and kept walking. After all, you were completely legal.

This was not a good encounter, IMHO. They had no business checking "your papers" without RAS that you had done, or were about to do something considered to be a crime.

If at all posible in the future, do not consent to anything. Since you did already, there is not much else you can do about it now. Chalk it up as a learning experience and try to do better next time.
