Franible Ammo Help
I live in a densely populated area and need ammo that won't travel trough walls hitting non-combants. Whats the best frangible ammo to buy? thanks in advance.

Re: Franible Ammo Help
If you want to go with an exotic frangible, I like RBCD the most.
Of course, the best protection for bystanders is to have the target stop the bullets for you.

Not sure if you are looking for pistol or centerfire, but her are some links.
http://www.sinterfire.com/ These seem to be very popular. I cannot find the frangible ammo that I have used in the past.

Re: Franible Ammo Help
Beware of Sintered/PM bullets in defensive use. They are meant for lead-free ranges and steel targets. On these sites, I see no talk of expansion, of which I do not think the sintered/PM bullet is capable.
I also noticed on the Accu Tec page that their .357 sig round had adequate penetration, but did not disintegrate, even after going through 20 gauge steel. Their .40 SW just makes 8". Their 9 mm stops at 7". Remember that a bullet is considered "effective" if it penetrates 8-12" of Ballistic Gelatin.
They also have a picture of 5.56 going through windshield glass. So how much over-travel protection can it really provide?
I also do not recommend Glaser or Mag-Safe ammo.
In fact I used to use #8 bird-shot in my 12-gauge for the same concern about neighbors. Then one day I read a news story about a man shot in the face with bird-shot. While it removed considerable skin, his would were only superficial. I ceased using that load.
But the choice is up to you, just be a little skeptical of the advertising. There are no magic bullets.

Re: Franible Ammo Help
Bring it up again..I've tried Glaser Safety slugs and mag-safes in the past. has anyone done any penetration testing on:
A. std home doors
B. auto bodies
C. drywall
Also what about some of the newer "green" ammo or even just bullets. Good to reload with? What say ye?

Practice shooting and don't and don't miss.
Any pistol or rifle round that is going to be very effective at stopping a threat is going to sail right through most walls and especially drywall. Just a fact. You can see some of the slow motion tests of some of this so called "safety ammo" and other variations fired through simulated pieces of wall.
I got 3000 of those a while back. They will sail right through drywall and even the human body. They will only break up if they hit something hard like a steel plate.Last edited by dkf; October 19th, 2013 at 10:00 PM.
