MD resident question - obtaining a firearm

Posting for a friend who lives and Maryland and is interested in getting a handgun, but is unsure how to go about doing it.

without trying to be funny or sarcastic....I believe you first must kiss the popes ring then have some pretty strong PULL.
Maryland is tough like NY NJ for handgun.....long gun different story

Go to a MD store...Purchase handgun......fill out paperwork.....Wait 7-45 days.....Get call from store.....

A) Get pissed cause you can't get your gun and all your money back

B) go pick up your gun...

MD guns are ballistic fingerprinted, when you buy a gun you'll find an empty case, the bullet fired from that case is on record!

It's a PITA to purchase a handgun in MD compared to many states, but not as bad as others.

Basically here's what you do.

Go to a dealer where you think you want to do business.
Pick out the firearm you want.
If this is your first purchase, you will have to watch "the video" to get a card that allows you to purchase a handgun.
Save "the card" and laminate and hide it deeply in your wallet because if you lose it you have to watch the video again.
Complete federal form and two state forms.
Pay for firearm.
Wait 7 days.
Pickup firearm.

I don't know. My last handgun purchase in MD was 1979, and they didn't do it then. You can actually watch the video online, then printout the .pdf file that pops up!

I never had the approval process take more than a week when I lived in Maryland and I don't know many who took longer. As I understand it, if the MSP doesn't respond within by the end of day seven, the dealer can go ahead but few will unless they are ballsy.

Permits can be had. I could have had one but it would only have been valid when carrying cash deposits or transporting inventory. They're onto the dodge of always carrying a $1,000 in an envelope with a deposit ticket.

Maryland does offer an affirmative defense to carrying without a permit if you are carrying something that makes you fearful being robbed.

Obviously in Maryland, property is more important than life.

The video is pretty innocuous. Yeah, I know . . . nose of the camel, one chip at a time, slippery slope. But look at how many people buy a gun and don't know squat about guns. Not long ago there was a fellow here looking for basic instruction on how to shoot a rifle. Remember that. How about all the people who come here looking for the rules. Here the government has said "You will know the basics before progressing."

When Maryland passed that law, people were running in circles crying that the world would end because no one would be able to view the video. Next thing you know you can watch the video at gun shows. I'm pretty sure that gun shops show the video and we have just learned that you can watch it on-line.

There are many times that I wish they had mandatory education for voters.

Maryland passed a law requiring all private handgun transfers to have paperwork done on them. The dealers' association announced that they would not participate so the MSP stepped up to the challenge and set up tables at gun shows to start the paperwork.

Yeah, they have some pain in the butt laws but as anti-gun states go, they're pretty gun friendly.

can you watch "the video" at the dealer or does that need to be done prior to filling out the paperwork etc?
in jersey you needed the permit to buy a specific handgun prior to getting it etc.
