CC through Different States?
I have a LTC for PA & I will be going to NC in a few weeks traveling through MD, VA, WVA & arriving in NC. Can I legally CC carry in these states? I know that MD that I would have to seperate my ammo & gun. but is it ok to drive down I-95 CC w/o any problems through WVA, VA, NC? I also seen a Federal Law for CC , whereas you have to seperate your gun & ammo, what's up w/that?

Re: CC through Different States?
Your PA LTCF is good in VA, WV, and NC, but not in MD or DE. Be sure to unload and separate. Lock the firearm in your truck and the ammo in the passenger compartment, or vice versa. They can not be in the same case. Also there are some differences in each state's laws, such as in VA you must OC in an estabishment that serves alcohol and you also can not carry in a church during service. These are just two for the moment but I know there are more. Check out each state's web site for more info.

Re: CC through Different States?
Here's what you do:
CC from your house. When you get within a few miles of the border to Maryland, pull over and lock your gun and magazine(s) in separate locked containers in your trunk or, if you're in a truck/SUV, the further point from the passenger area inside the vehicle. Drive through Maryland, and after you cross the border into WV, pull over, and re-arm.
In Virginia, keep in mind that you cannot carry concealed in establishments that serve alcohol, regardless of if you consume it, and must either openly carry or not carry at all.
And read the prohibited areas in North Carolina, as there are a lot of them. Off the top of my head, any establishments selling alcohol are legally off-limits.
ETA: That's if you're using I-81, as you seemed to imply by your list of states. Apply the same concept to states like Delaware that don't accept our LTCF... stop before you get to the border, store as I previously said, and rearm when you get to a state that recognizes the PA LTCFLast edited by imperialism2024; May 10th, 2009 at 09:55 PM.

If you're going from NE Pennsylvania to North Carolina and wind up in West "By Gawd" Virginian then you're probably lost and may need your pistol to kill a deer to survive.

Re: CC through Different States?
There is no federal law on CC'n.. The law only protects unloaded and stored guns/ammo across state lines.

That thread is what applies to states you are traveling through (i.e., not the destination or origin state) and do not have an accepted (reciprocal or otherwise) license for. Also keep in mind that this federal law only protects you if you limit your stops in such a state to necessary stops only, i.e., gasoline, food, etc. More details in the thread.Last edited by JCWohlschlag; May 10th, 2009 at 10:08 PM.

Re: CC through Different States?
I believe your question was if you can carry to these states. Can I legally CC carry in these states? The answer is if your starting and ending destination recognizes your LTCF then you are OK. Still make sure to lock and separate in states you cannot or rather states that do not reciprocate your current state LTCF.... Furthermore you may want to go to http://handgunlaw.us to print a LTCF reciprocity map.
Hope that helps............Last edited by Bookers; May 10th, 2009 at 10:09 PM.
