Berks Sheriffs Guns Safety Brochure
I just noticed that the Berks Co. Sheriffs Office has a gun safety brochure on their website, and amazingly it doesn't contain the blatant misinformation that other depts. brochures have (as far as I can tell).
http://www.co.berks.pa.us/sheriff/li...tybrochure.pdf
It does have some interesting information in it:
Children & Firearms
Few accidents are as tragic, or as preventable, as those involving
children and fi rearms. Having children in the home, whether they
live there or are visiting, makes it even more important to practice
safe storage of fi rearms:
• Do not underestimate the ability of children to fi nd, or reach a
fi rearm you thought was safely hidden.
• Check stored fi rearms periodically to be sure that security
devices are still intact, and that the fi rearms have not been loaded
by an unauthorized person. Not only will this help ensure that
your fi rearms are stored safely, this will also allow you to inspect
your fi rearms for dirt, corrosion, or other conditions requiring
maintenance or repair.
• There are many safety programs designed for children. As soon
as they are old enough to understand, educate your children about
fi rearms safety.
Remember: Most firearms accidents are preventable.
Protect yourself and your loved ones
by taking fi rearms safety seriously.
Sadly, on the FAQ page:
(8) What should I do if I am stopped by a law enforcement officer while carrying a weapon with my Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms?
Immediately tell the officer that you are carrying a weapon and that you are licensed to do so while your hands are visible to the officer. Follow the officer's instructions completely. For safety reasons, the officer may secure your weapon while they verify your license to carry firearms. Please help my Baby Kitties and I avoid being homeless.
