Opporunity to meet with sheriff candidate
I sent the following email to Eric Foy, candidate for Sheriff in Venango County:
"To: efoy09@verizon.net
Sent: Thursday, April 30, 2009 10:25:58 AM
Subject: Question, position on License to carry firearms
Dear Mr. Foy,
I am considering who I will vote for as Venango Sheriff, and therefore would like to hear your position on a few matters.
1. Issuing License to carry firearms (LTCF): Will you take the maximum 45 days allowed by law to issue a LTCF, issue a LTCF immediately upon receipt of application and PICS approval, or somewhere in between?
2. Will you issue LTCF's to non-residents?
3. Will you have any increases in fees for the issuance of LTCF's including photo fees, etc.?
4. Do you have any intentions on making LTCF's look more professional like a drivers license, or continue to use the huge flimsy laminated version currently issued by Sheriff Price?
5. Will you continue to hand out the packet of information that Sheriff Price gives out with LTCF's that is full of incorrect info?
6. Do you believe that open carry of a firearm on foot, without a LTCF, is legal?
7. Do you believe it is illegal to carry a firearm in a bar?
8. Do you believe the 2nd amendment is about hunting and target shooting?
I look forward to hearing your responses.
Sincerely,"
I received the following response back:
"Garrett,
I am please to here from you with these isssues. I feel that it is the BIGGEST issue in this race, and I can assure you that it should not be. I will gladly explain that more, but I would really like to sit down and talk to you about your questions. I think they are very important. Can you please email me back and tell me when a good time would be convenient. I look forward to meeting you and you getting to know me and what I am about.
Thank you,
Eric"
I am considering taking him up on the offer to meet. Does anyone else have questions that they would suggest asking?

Re: Opporunity to meet with sheriff candidate
In addition, ask him or any other candidate about the following..
1. Even though >18yo to <21yo private transfers of handguns through a Sheriff are 100% legal in state and federal laws, would you practice such transfers?
2. If "no" to number 1, why for such a decision?
3. Would you do NFA sign-off's?
4. Would you issue non-resident licenses?
5. Would you accept resident and non-resident applications for LTCF?

take him up on the offer. it cant hurt to have him listen to your questions and your input, in person, especially since he is willing to sit down with you and talk about his views and ideas on his own time.
Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.

Re: Opporunity to meet with sheriff candidate
It's just a laminated piece of paper measuring 5.5" by 3.25" it's a real pain in the butt to carry in a wallet.
I will be meeting with Mr. Foy at my house next Thursday. I will be sure to post what I find out.
Think this will be a good time to open carry? He does seem pretty pro-gun from what I gather, however his website mentions hunting anytime he talks about gun issues. I'm concerned he may be a Fudd.Last edited by blaster668; May 7th, 2009 at 10:41 AM.

Re: Opporunity to meet with sheriff candidate
Yes, OC would be a great way to see how he reacts.
About the hunting mentions:
- He could be a Fudd
- He might just be a hunting fan and you're reading into it too much
- He may not understand the nature of 2A (defense, not hunting)
- He may lack the political courage to mention *gasp* handguns in his literature
