Default Out for a few days...

So if I don't answer a PM, I'm not ignoring you...

Unfortunately, we're back at the Children's Hospital in Hershey for a few days...Pat's doing OK, but he'll need some TLC and a lot of IV for a little while.

I'm not familiar with your situation but want to wish you the best of luck. I hope everything works out for you and your family.

I'm not far from Hershey. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

Thanks for the thoughts, and your offer, SFN!

Pat is 4 years old, and was born with Posterior Urethral valve ,which basically destroyed his kidneys before he was born; one was completely destroyed and has been removed, the other has 16% function remaining, and he is one growth spurt of one UTI away from transplant.

We relatively recently had the g-tube port removed and the hole in his belly for that closed up; needless to say, he picked up a bug from somewhere, and since we couldn't force fluid into him, he dehydrated rapidly. He actually drinks between 150 and 180 ounce of liquid every day, since he can't concentrate urine, so if he doesn't get enough, he dries right out. It also messes up his electrolyte balance, and it takes very careful management of the replacement fluids to keep him working right. The hospitals up here simply can't deal with it, and pediatric nephrologists are few and far between, so it's down to Hershey any time that something gets the least little it out of kilter.

Taking care of him takes its toll, but I can never say that my life isn't interesting!
