Ported Colt Anacondas
A few questions on this fine gun - the Colt Anaconda.
1. Is the ported version legal in NJ?
2. Does the muzzle port get dirty / be a PITA to clean after firing a few boxes?
3. I've seen several versions state on the box or on the barrel that it is .44 magnum / .44 special, while others say just .44 magnum. Is there some meaning to this? Are there some that shouldn't fire the specials?
Thanks

Re: Ported Colt Anacondas
1) Yes, perfectly legal
2) Yes, I'm sure that it does, although if only jacketed bullets were used it would just be powder residue. Not too bad to clean. Even lead (if cast bullets are used) would not be that difficult, since it's a stainless gun
3) Any handgun chambered for .44 Magnum will also chamber and fire .44 Special, or .44 Russian for that matter. Just as with shooting .38 Spec in a .357 Magnum you have to clean the cylinder well since the mouths of the shorter cases fall behind the shoulder rebate in the cylinder.
BTW - left you a PM over on NJCSD (which is down right now).
Adios,
Pizza Bob

Re: Ported Colt Anacondas
I have a ported .44 Raging Bull and it does get dirty! Nothing a little Weapon Shield and some q-tips can't handle though! I've also found that the WS helps keep the dirt from re-accumulating in the ports and on the cylinder face!
I wish I still had my ported Anaconda...I sold it years ago but now I have a 1994 non-ported Anaconda.

Re: Ported Colt Anacondas
What was it about the port that you now wish you had? Just the styling, the way it fires, something else?
Post a pic of your anaconda here - maybe I'll make you an offer, then you can go buy your old ported one back againLast edited by RocketFoot; May 6th, 2009 at 06:16 AM.

Re: Ported Colt Anacondas
Anytime you shoot a lead bullet with no jacket you increase the amount of lead that builds in the ports making it a pain in the ass to clean. Shoot jacketed bullets to cut down on cleaning time.
I have 2 Anaconda wheel guns and they have been awesome. Luv em.

Re: Ported Colt Anacondas
Not to sidetrack the thread, but when did Colt port the Conda's? I dont recall ever seeing a factory ported Colt revolver.
Back to the theme.. I can tell you that the Magna-porting on my Virginian Dragoon Silhouette 10.5" 44mag dirties up the front sight some. Nothing major though.. Easy to clean off the stainless steel. Its also much louder than my uncles 7.5" Ruger Redhawk using the same ammo.
