    Default Montgomery Co LTCF

I'm looking to get a LTCF for my wife and I. According to the Monto Sherrifs site: "applicant must remember to supply names, addresses and telephone numbers of two (2) references (not immediate family.)"

What exactly is "not immediate family"?
Would a step parent count? Father in Law?

Any requirements for where the references live?
My father in law is a retired florida police officer, lives in FL. And my step father is an attorney, lives in NE PA.

I would think that your step father and FIL would both count as family members. However, if the last names are different from yours, you might get by. Also, I don't think they have to be from Montco. It might just be easier to come up with two other references - coworkers, neighbors, etc. - and give their information to the sheriff's office. It's a relatively quick and painless procedure at the Montco courthouse. In fact, if you're stuck, email me and I'll give you my info.

I've never seen a definition as to "immediate family" as far as the LTCF app goes. However, a lot of sheriffs do not even contact references, although I don't know if Montco does or not.

Probably best just to call and ask your sheriff's dept. to be sure how they interpret it.

    Started the process yesterday.
Wife went to the local PD and filled out the Police Check Cards. They had them there, so it saved us a trip to Norristown.
PD charged $10 ea to do the check and mail to Norristown.
We know the secretary, she said she'd have it done and mailed out by the end of the day.

Got our LTCF's Friday. Pretty much a painless process. Other than trying to find parking in Norristown We had no change for the meters.

Filled out the police check cards Tuesday.
Called the Sherrif on Thursday, the cards were in.
    Got the LTCF Friday.

Only took about 20 min at the courthouse (right at lunch time). There were 3 officers taking applications and no line when we got there. It would've went quicker, but the same officer did both my wife's and my applications.

Stopped at Seneca Arms on the way home and picked up a .38 Special for my wife.

All in all and excelent day.

EDIT: I used a neighbor and coworker for references. They didn't call either of them. Even if they had, both were at work and I used their home phone numbers.
