Carry pistol to NJ for range time?
I'm looking to do some training in NJ, and was curious about the laws regarding carrying a pistol over the border from PA into NJ. I'd just be taking it to a range, then back into PA.
I don't have a PA carry permit btw.
Anyone have any insight for me? I tried to google this, but could only find information about carrying guns from NJ into PA.

I believe you are limited to a magazine capacity of 15 rounds in NJ and the gun and ammo must be stored separately while transporting. (i.e. gun locked in the truck, ammo in the backseat)

Re: Carry pistol to NJ for range time?
I'd double check that - unless some one knows definitively different.
It is legal to cross interstate borders with a firearm as already noted. Whether it is legal for you to stop and use that firearm in a state where you are not a resident and have no permit, that is a different issue entirely. It can be done, legally, for registered pistol competitions. The gun owner is required to carry a copy of his registration at the event so as to produce it if necessary. Whether you can just drive into NJ and go to a range.....???
Pete
PS - found this: "Under N.J.S. 2C:39-5, possession of ALL firearms is prohibited unless one has a NJ permit to carry a handgun or a NJ Firearm Purchaser ID card for long guns."Last edited by Pete D.; May 1st, 2009 at 07:27 AM.
