Default The Swine Flu, is this the end of mankind?

My God, the news media makes it sound like a global outbreak that will wipe out mankind It's as cureable as the common cold. Anyone infected makes a full recovery without requiring medical attention and without the use of antiviral medicines. I'm getting sick of all the hype.

edit: In second and third world countries I can see this being a fatal virus, but I can't see this being fatal in the US.

Nevermind the fact that the Seasonal Flu (you know, the kind nobody in the media gives a flip about) has killed over 50,000 people SO FAR IN 2009.

Talk about an overblown non-event. Sheesh.

Except for about 250 people who died in Mexico that is. Apparently they don't count. I agree it's being a little overblown, but real global pandemics have happened before. Ninety years ago influenza killed 100 million people. The strain circulating right now doesn't seem too bad, but viruses mutate all of the time. If this one mutates to be more deadly instead of less, we could be in a lot of trouble.

The last I knew there was no cure for the common cold.
Treatments to help ease the symptoms, yes. Cure, no.

I do agree that it seems to be getting hyped a bit much, but if it were left to pass and turned out to be something major there would be tremendous backlash because the media didn't properly inform everyone.

I don't have a short temper, I just have a quick reaction to bullshit.

Always remember what those in the new administration have said: "Never waste a good crisis."
