Default Ammo for Beretta 85 FS Cheetah 380 AUTO

Just purchased for conceal carry and home protection. 62 years old. Last experience with ammo was military in 70"s. Ammo now is like cereal, way to many choices. What kind of ammo can I use? Help.

Beretta Cheetahs are great guns. They will run any .380 ACP ammo you feed them without a hiccup. I run Federal 90gr hyrda-shoks in mine.

I use Remington Gloden Sabers in my Browning BDA .380 for defense and S&B FMJ for target shooting.

ETA: The BDA is similar to the Beretta 84.

I would recommend going with 95gr FMJ. If you must get hollow point (JHP), I would go with 102gr Golden Saber. Ammo is in short supply right now. So what you can get is what you should buy.

380 is less powerful than 38 SPL. That's why I recommend the FMJ. Penetration is more important than the hope of it opening up and just getting under the skin.

I've never met anyone who volunteered to get shot with anything larger than a 177 cal BB gun. But I've done some ad hoc experiments with reloads as well as research on what ultimately works based on other people's work, Dr Martin Fackler being my primary source.

The hardball you used in the military will work in the scaled down form. In some guns, it feeds more reliably. Don't know about the Cheetah. I've only heard good things about it reliability wise.

So far I have yet to find any brand that my Beretta 85 FS will not eat. Great little gun btw.

Lots of different .380 ammo out there. First and formost, be sure that your gun will run the load you want to use for defense.
    My .380's are both Kel-tec p3at's, and I use PowR'Ball in both.

    BTW, welcome to the forum!
