Suggestions for rear sight for AR
A2 front, Flattop, carbine, will add optics later. I know it will come down to what works for me but without being able to try them out ,I am looking for ideas. I have noted other posts and pics. Go w/ a BUIS or a quality detachable handle A2 and match a BUIS(later) to the type of optic I go with?
Optics not any time soon as ammo is first /next on the list.
Thanks for the replies

Why buy twice?
Eventually you plan on adding optics and you'll end up shelving the detachable handle...or it could always be a start to building a new rifle.

Re: Suggestions for rear sight for AR
I am in the same boat as you. I have a detachable carry handle, and a RRA "tactical" carry handle, just think it is too much metal for what it does. I am looking at the Magpul MBUS for mine. They can be had for around $60. Light, sturdy, A2 sights, good company, availiable in different colors.

Re: Suggestions for rear sight for AR
I can't even fathom why a detachable carry handle is still a prevalent option these days. Why did you buy a flat top if you are going to waste all that space with a carry handle?
Are you really going to carry the rifle by it? (No) So why buy one?
I'd buy a cheap flip rear sight and be done with it. Magpul / Promag FU-BUIS.
Either can be had for about $60. Then you still have 5" of rail to put an optic on. And my promag BUIS worked with my optic. I just used a riser to get the optic where IT needed to be.

Re: Suggestions for rear sight for AR
I would suggest an ARMS 40 rear flip site. Depending on optic used, the ARMS 40L might be the right choice so it fits under the optic.
I would never for any reason not run BUIS on a shtf firearm that you have an optic on. What happens if the battery in the optic dies? What happens if the lens breaks -- and on and on. So, i would not get a detachable carry handle. I'd buy the flip up site to start with so you don't need to replace the carry handle with yet another site when you go to buy an optic.

Re: Suggestions for rear sight for AR
I was thinking along those lines. I am planing on multiple builds and I am not worried about the extra sight. I think I would like an Eotech and there is a lot of things I do not understand about all the different hts. so you can Co-wittness. I would always have BUIS and I would never (only Temp) waste all the space on a flattop.I was checking out Troys & MI's (flip up). I will have time to figure all that out later but looking for a starting point as I hope to have the first basic build completed soon.
Thanks for all the replies.

If you're going to end up going with an eotech, you won't need to worry about co-witness. You can just bolt on the eotech and still us whatever rear BUIS you choose. With an eotech, you do not need any additional mounts or risers to get co-witness. Eotech is my choice as well for up close out to 200yds.

Re: Suggestions for rear sight for AR
I have the ARMS 40(40L?) on mine for much the same reasons.
When I got the AR, I said I:
• Want to get an optic
• Can't afford one for a while
• Want to learn to shoot w/open sights FIRST anyway
• If optic fails, need a BUIS
• Could buy a cheap carry handle or rear sight, for a "temporary" sight, but why not just get the BUIS and be done with it?
Here's mine. Still no optics.
Folded down...
Close up...
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
