Dear Campus Community,
This morning, at 12:12 a.m., another Carnegie Mellon student reported being robbed at gunpoint by two suspects. This incident occurred on Schenley Drive near West Circuit Road in Schenley Park. The suspects repeatedly assaulted the victim during the robbery and both suspects fled on foot.
With this incident being the latest in a recent string of robberies in the Oakland area, we're writing to encourage the campus community to take extreme precaution when walking at night, and we strongly encourage you to use the University Shuttle/Escort Service and Safe Walk when at all possible. You can contact Safe Walk at 412-268-SAFE (7233) between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., seven days a week. The Escort Service can be reached at 412-268-RIDE (7433).
The two suspects in this latest armed robbery have been described as African American males. One suspect was described as being in his 20s, 5'8'' to 6'1'' tall and approximately 160 lbs. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with an orange shirt underneath. The second suspect was described as being in his 20s, having a dark complexion, 5'8'' to 6'1'' tall and approximately 160 lbs. He was also wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.
It appears the suspects are travelling throughout the Oakland area targeting people who are walking alone as well as in small groups. The suspects have become increasingly aggressive and in this latest incident the victim was injured.
The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, University of Pittsburgh Police and Carnegie Mellon Police are working together to apprehend the suspects, but we strongly ask for your cooperation in following these safety tips:
" Avoid walking alone at night. Utilize the University Shuttle/Escort Service as well as Safe Walk when possible. You can contact Safe Walk at 412-268 SAFE (7233) between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., seven days a week. You can contact the Escort Service at 412-268-RIDE (7433).
" Stay alert to your surroundings.
" Avoid areas not part of major roadways.
" Avoid the areas where recent robberies have occurred until the suspects are apprehended.
" Avoid carrying large sums of money, debit and charge cards as well as other valuables.
" If the suspect is after your valuables do not resist or confront them to avoid a violent confrontation or injury.
" Report any suspicious incidents, persons or vehicles to Campus Police at 412-268-2323 or off-campus to Pittsburgh Police at 911.
Thank you for your continued support in helping to make Carnegie Mellon a safe environment.
Sincerely,
Student Body President Jared Itkowitz
Chief of Police Tom Ogden
Interim Dean of Students Dick Tucker

you should make a bunch of copies, and attach them to 2x2's and pass those out on campus.
Just serving notice to students, with a handy carry handle.
