Default Looking for a .45acp for CC

I know people ask these kinds of questions all the time and I hope this is ok. I'd just like to get some ideas on .45s to consider when looking for my new CC gun.

I got my tax refund, and have picked up some extra hours at work the past couple of weeks. And now I've decided that I'd like to get a .45acp for concealed carry. I currently carry a Glock 19, or sometimes a Taurus 85 in my pocket. Here's my criteria:

    • $800 or less (I say 800 b/c I'd like to keep Sigs and HKs in possible consideration but 800's my upper limit)
    • Very reliable
    • Concealable (not much larger than a G19) (slide length isn't much of an issue, mainly "height" of the gun as that's what I find difficult to conceal)
    • The lighter the better (within reason, doesn't have to be super light)

The only ones that I've really thought about so far are:
    Springfield XD45 and XD45C
    S&W M&P45 and M&P45C

I forget what the smaller 1911's are called, commanders maybe? If those have a shorter grip, and can be had for under $800, I'd consider them if anyone recommends them. A full-size 1911 is a little too large for me to CC comfortably.

Basically, I'm open to any .45s. If you carry it concealed, and think that another person would be able to CC it relatively easy, please list it here. Based on the suggestions, I'll do a little more research about each gun mentioned and narrow my list down. Then I'll go handle and shoot as many of them as I can. I realize handling and shooting them is the most important part but I can't just walk in and ask to handle and shoot every .45. I've gotta have some idea before I go in.

Thanks in advance for the help guys.

**And before anyone asks, I don't have a problem with my Glock 19 as a carry gun. I just want a larger caliber that I could carry and I need an excuse to spend my tax refund on a new handgun.

I find my Glock 30 to be very easy to conceal. I would highly recommend checking one out. 10+1 rounds of .45ACP in an easy to conceal, easy to shoot, accurate, reliable package.

I own a Kimber 1911 Eclipse Pro, and I carry that and it works great (now that the "break in period" has been met). And although it's a little bit out side of your price range, there are similar commander models out there made by Springfield, Taurus, and some Kimber's that will be around/under $800. They are very slim and will conceal easily, but I know that some complain about the weight of the pistol....It doesn't really bother me though. And besides, the extra weight helps with the recoil. I'd go with a 1911, but handle a few and see what you like, that's what's really going to matter.

If you like the Glock platform, take a look at the 30SF. Similar in size to the 19 but slightly thicker. If your looking for a Commander size 1911, take a look at a Kimber Pro Carry or a Springer Champion. Both can be had under $800.

A buddy of mine carries a Taurus 45ACP he really likes.
    I carry a kahr 40, and I love it.
I mention it because they make a 45ACP that is really small and concealable.

    And nowhere near as dead-nuts reliable as the G30 . . . .

    If you like Glocks, 30SF.

If you want to put some money to ammo and holsters, try a Taurus PT745C. Should go around $350 new, 6+1, 20 1/2 oz empty.

I use two .45 ACPs for CC. A Kimber Ultra CDP (3" barrel, 7+1) in a pocket holster or a Springfield Armory XD 45 Tactical (5" barrel, 13+1) in a SuperTuck or belly band holster.

I prefer the XD 45, but sometimes it's just handier to grab the Kimber in the pocket pistol. Not giving much up with choosing the Kimber.

I load both with Remington Golden Sabre ammunition.

I can't think of anything more or better that I could need for a CC weapon.

Thumbs down for a Taurus .45.

Honestly, who here would trust their life to a Taurus auto? Revolvers are so bad, but their rep for auto's is less than desirable.
