    Default How much ammo did you buy last year?

    Okay, just about every other day someone is complaining about ammo availability. Here is a new spin. A lot of people think the shortage is due to hoarding. I am just wondering if that is the case. So, how much did you buy? Was it more than normal? I know people don’t like to talk about how much ammo they have---I’m not asking that, I’d just like to know how much you bought. For all anyone knows, you shot every round you bought---and that is what i'll assume too.

    Mods, sorry if this is redundant--if it is you can close it or put it in the lounge. I'm just trying to figure out if we, the gun owners, are buying more than normal and causing the "shortages" ourselves.

    Here is roughly what I purchased over the last year. It is what I normally buy on a yearly bases. I did buy a little more than normal on the 7.62x39 because I picked up another AK.

    Now, I told you about me, please be nice and share about you. Thanks

    .22 --- 5k
    .223 --- 3k
    7.62x39 --- 4k
    9mm --- 4k
    .45 --- 1k
    12ga --- 500

    .223 = 0
    .30-06 = 0
    8mm = 0
    .45ACP = 0
    .357 = 0
    .30 Carbine = 0

    How much did I shoot? PLENTY.. I'd say 4-5k easy.

    Cool, thanks for sharing the info.

    Now to the paranoid folks---if you don't feel like stating how much you bought---don't. Just say if you bought more or less than previous years.

    I really am just curious as to who or if people on the site bought more / less than before.

    Based on availability of ammo, someone had to be buying it or the supply is way down.

    2008 [Pre-November]:
    7.62x39 - 10k
    7.62x54R - 2k
    7.62x63 - 1k
    7.62x25 - 1k
    12 gauge - 3k (I have two Saiga-12's...)
    .40 - 2k
    .44 mag - 2k

    2008 [Nov and Dec]:
    .40 - 1k

    2009 [YTD]:
    12 gauge - 0.5k
    .40 - 5k
    .38 - 1k
    .45 - 1k

    Basically, I stocked up last year on rifle ammo. I underestimated how much I was going to shoot pistols after I turned 21. So now I have enough rifle ammo to last me for a long time, but it's the cheap pistol ammo I'm snatching up... because I shoot 150-200 rounds per week now.

    I bought NOTHING.

    I'm one of the tens of thousands of new gun owners who are buying ammo THIS YEAR.

    Yep, blame the shortage on me. I've got broad shoulders... I can take it.

    August to November of last yr:
    400 .40S&W
    200 .223
    500 .22

    November to Present:
    1600 .223
    3k .40

    Its my fault......but, really I fell into the middle of this whole thing, I would have bought that much after I decided on the handgun caliber to stick with regardless of the situation, actually, I would have bought more but its too expensive.

    I'll take some of the blame too, but not much. Last year I got a 12g shotgun and some shells but way before the shortage. This year got a .22 rifle and I'm buying up a few bricks when I can find them.

    Started reloading last year as well so I'll take more of the heat for the shortage of primers. But again most was before election time. Since Nov 08 it's about 4k of primers, couple lbs of powder.

    Luckily I got started at a better and earlier time last year and my purchases have been minimal since the election, except for the .22lr ammo. Haven't bought any ammo for the handguns since early in 08. Couple of boxes of 30-30 and 30-06 this year.

    Thanks guys

    I'm not looking to lay blame. I'm trying to decide if people are really buying more or if supply has been slowed down.

    So far, it doesn't seem like you guys were buying up all the ammo.

    I really didn't start buying a lot until the election:

    2008

    100) 30-06
    80) 7mm mag
    60) .270
    600) .40
    500) .308

    2009
    3k 9mm
    1k .45
    1.5k .40
    1.5k .223
    1k .308

    I didn't even have a .308, .223, 9mm, .45 or a .270 until after Obama.
