    Default Magazines for 1911 .45

I recently bought a Colt 1911 .45. It's an old shooter (frame dates back to 1915, but it's been reblued etc.) rather than a collector item. Now I need to get a few magazines. Having limited experience with these, should I stick to getting the old 7-round ones or should I go for current more expensive varieties? Which will give me the best tolerance for different types of bullet? I've searched the forum for this type of discussion, but only have come up with a couple that talked about RIA 1911s and newer Colts than mine. Any input on 1911-type magazines appreciated.

Any Quality mag should do it's part, I bought a few Chip McCormic mags last years for a great $ and all work great.
Old 1911s are great guns,,,,!! Good find! We also need a PIC! ! !!
    One word of caution,
The slides before 1928 were not hardened throughout, Only at the muzzle, And they have been known to crack at the ejection port.
Make sure you have a good recoil spring and use only ball ammo, Nothing hot! And if you cant live with yourself if you crack the slide, Well dont shoot it till you dig up a newer slide, You should be able to find one in the $100 range but it will be well used.
I dont mean to scare you, I have shot an older one a bunch, But now I dont.
Please if you have any more questions feel free to ask or PM me with your # and we can chat.
Here is an example of a Colt from 1914, The slide was rusted in half at the ejection port, So I put on a newer slide that I had and this thing will shoot anything I put into it, And I dont worry at all.

is it just the frame that's from 1915, or is it the entire gun? if it's just the frame, then i wouldn't worry too much about it. it probably won't feed JHP too well, but it's nothing some fluff'n'buff can't cure. the beauty of 1911s is that any mag made for one will fit another.

if it's the frame and the slide, and internals that are from 1915, buy a nice glass case, line it with red velvet, and put it in there. i would be too scared to fingerprints on it, let alone shoot it.

oh and post some pics, goddamnit.

I'm a fan of the KimPro Tac mags, 8 rounds and 3 different baseplates, cheaper than the 47D's also

i use chip mccormick s/s 8 round shooting star mags. theyre under 20 bucks a pop. i never had any issues with any of them. i fully recomend them. the wilson mags with the no tilt self lubing follower are nice too but big money for a 1911 mag in my opinion.

When I have to purchase extra magazine for any of my 1911 style pistols I use what I consider the best after market magazine around TRIPP

Own a bunch of Mec-Gar .45 and .38 Super, all have worked very well. I think that we heard that they make some of the big guys factory(?) mags.
