Transporting Rifles
I live in a rural area and during the summer a rifle is usually in my truck for hunting groundhogs and shooting. With all the laws and opinions on the issue I need to know, is it legal to have a rifle not it a case in a vehicle in Pa. I've been told it is very much up to interpretation of the law. Any facts on this issue would be greatly appreciated

Re: Transporting Rifles
Its legal to have a long gun in a vehicle. However, you can NEVER have it loaded while in the vehicle. Game laws also say you may not have it loaded while on or against the vehicle too.

Re: Transporting Rifles
And game laws say if you stop and alight from a vehicle you must be 25 yds from the travelled portion of the roadway
from PGC Website
Road Hunting: It is unlawful to 1) hunt from a vehicle; 2) shoot at
wildlife on a public road or right-of-way open to public travel; 3)
shoot across a road unless the line of fire is high enough to preclude
any danger to road users; and 4) alight from a vehicle and shoot at any
wildlife until the shooter is at least 25 yards from the traveled portion
of the roadway.

Re: Transporting Rifles
AFAIK transporting a rifle in your vehicle, the rifle must be unloaded. As to being in a case I'm not sure, wait for someone with more smarts to answer.
Damn, I type too...........................................slow .

Re: Transporting Rifles
As long as the magazine is removed, the gun is deemed to be unloaded. IIRC, You can keep the magazine loaded but in a different place than the gun. So if the gun is in your Easy Rider Rifle Rack, and the magazine is in a bag on the floor board everything is ok.

Re: Transporting Rifles
Thanks, Just wanted to make sure. I do not drive around with a rifle loaded ever so it sounds like I will make out fine.
