    Default Roll or taper crimp .357 and .44 magnum?

    Wonder what type of crimp to use, I'm shooting an S&W 686 and S&W 629 loads are as follows.

    .357 Mag 125gr jsp with 17 grains of 2400

    .44 Mag 225gr jsp with 20.5 grains of 2400

    If you are using it in a revolver, there is only "ROLL CRIMP", and for many good reasons.

    To keep your bullets from moving under recoil and locking the cylinder up.

    To keep pressure and temprature of ignition in proper limits, which is important to consistency, accuracy, and safety.

    Roll crimp is for cartridges that seat on the rim, like a .357 or a .44, etc.

    Taper crimp is for cartridges that seat on the case mouth, like 9mm, 45acp, etc.

    Thanks thats what I figured, first time reloading those rounds, have been doing 9mm and .40 for awhile now.

    I concur with Flash and Steve.

    Always roll crimp cartridges that headspace with a rim. Taper crimp those that headspace with the case mouth.
