Foreign Policy Thoughts
Sitting at home today, I got to thinking--yeah I know bad idea.
All of my adult life I have felt the need for America to be involved in other countries business---mostly because those other countries could affect our way of life so greatly.
But, with O great one just finishing up his tour apologizing for America being too arrogant, I got to wondering.
What would happen if we stopped helping all these countries that hate us? What would happen if we pulled our troops out of these countries and bring them home? What would happen if we started to drill for oil here, produced our own goods and became less reliant on these other countries?
I’m beginning to think Ron Paul was right. We should be focusing our efforts here at home, doing things ourselves again , becoming self reliant, protecting our borders, drilling for oil, etc and leaving these other countries alone to fend for themselves. Then who gives a shit about what these other countries do as long as they are not attacking us. Hell, who cares if these other countries get nukes. If we are self reliant and have our borders sealed and have a defense system in place---who cares if they kill each other.
Maybe if we left them alone, they’d realize just how much we helped them---but by then, we could just tell them FU.
So, what are your thoughts about pulling out troops and helping other countries less. Would it be a big negative impact on our way of life if we became self sufficient again?

Re: Foreign Policy Thoughts
It is an interesting idea, but it wouldn't really work outside of a vacuum. It would make us even more susceptible to threats. Not to mention we wouldn't be able to enjoy mexican beaches anymore. It would end up being pretty devastating, in my opinion.

Re: Foreign Policy Thoughts
Hmmmm , this is thorny for sure . Im definetly not a hardcore isolationist but I despise the billions of dollars a year we spend as taxpayers , often going to regimes or other entities that are actively working against us . The fact that 90 million was just donated to Hamas is repulsive .
Im all for charitable giving , but I was also taught that charity begins at home . From a moral perspective we need to be taking care of our own first and foremost , then , if theres anything left , we can send it out .
As far as the military goes , I dont think we have a choice but to start pulling back and consolidating bases and equipment . Now , I dont mean to say that Im at all happy about the upcoming Defense Budget Cuts , cause Im not , Im a big believer in what my siggy says . At the same time , I dont think we can realisticly continue to support how many hundreds of bases World Wide ? There's also the consideration of the unlikelyhood of a major "set piece " WW II type of massive battle . Future conflicts are much more likely to be highly fluid , asymetrical warfare with a focus on smaller unit methods and hit and run strikes , using Air Superiority to " hold ground "
I personally really do like the idea of making a point by seriously pulling back and letting the rest of them see how they like it when Uncle Sam isnt there to make everything ok . But Im not holding my breath that it will ever happen .Si vis pacem, para bellum

Re: Foreign Policy Thoughts
I think it would be interesting to do isolationism for a year. Heavy tariffs on goods coming in, no NAFTA, no foreign aid, no Navy ships at earthquake/tsunami sites, no trips to the International Space Station, no troops in South Korea, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, Japan. Close the borders with Canada and Mexico(with the troops brought back from afar). Patrol the Gulf and left coast with a couple aircraft carriers to keep the riff-raff and drug smuggler out.
Israel would probably fall, or drop a nuke on someone. China would have to declare bankruptcy since the huge American market for their cheap junk would close up. Oil prices would plummet, assuming we drilled in the CONUS. The economies of several Latin American countries would collapse due to drug revenue decreases.
In the short term I'm sure we would get some gratification as many/most countries would bend over backwards to get the U.S. to start mailing out checks again, but in the long term I think the world would keep on spinning.A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Re: Foreign Policy Thoughts
Hey thanks for the replies so far guys.
It just really pissed me off to see O great one apologizing to the other nations, that without us would probably not exist today. It pissed me off even more to see him bow to that f'n guy---yeah, i know, he was looking at the rug---or looking for his contact---it wasn't a bow.
I'm just tired of us being portrayed as the bad guy and now that we have an administration in power that actually believes we are the bad guys it pisses me off even more seeing him be an apologist.
Not to mention their ideas about a one world and that lawyer that O great one appointed Cho or Ho or whatever that thinks world law out weighs our laws / constitution.
So, i just figured that if these other countries really think we are that bad that maybe we close our check book, close down our bases abroad and start to do things "in house" again and say a big FU to the rest of the world.
I'm just not that sure that doing things "in house" is a bad thing anymore---leaving these other countries to fend for themselves. If we have our borders secure, drill for our own oil, have the Navy patrolling our waters and missile systems in place to shoot down any incoming missiles, I think we could seriously say---FU it's your country, you figure out how to deal with your problems.

Very first step is to escort the UN off NY ! They can relocate to The EU , or Zimbabwae or Belgium or anywhere else but the US
